Moss Creek Campground | Washington Family Camping Trip
Summer is getting closer and closer and for our family that means it is time to book our summer camping trips. Our 4 kids love camping and its always the highlight of the summer. When choosing the perfect campground for our family we like to keep a few things in mind: Less than a 2 hour drive from Portland, access to water, either river or lake, and privacy. Here is a look back at one of our camping trips last summer.
Moss Creek Campground is located in Washington near Carson, about 70 miles from Portland. We booked our campsite for 3 nights, the longest we have gone camping. It was very hot but the trees provided some shade. Once you got down to the creek, the temperature dropped by at least 10 degrees. The creek was shallow but also had a fast, deeper section perfect for tubing. The water was freezing, but our kids didn’t complain. We were able to fish and even caught a few trout. Our kids are happy just throwing rocks for hours and this was the perfect place for that.
Our days were filled with playing in and around the creek and of course eating, lots of eating. At night we sat around the campfire and roasted marshmallows. We had some fun with glowsticks and played ring toss. We talked about the future and laughed and laughed. No electronics, no distractions, just us. My parents came up and joined us for 1 day and night of camping. They surprised the kids and just showed up. It was a wonderful long weekend of camping!
Fishing Fun
These two decided to make their own fishing poles. It didn’t work but I love the idea.
They took turns daring each other to go in the water deeper and deeper. Then it was a contest to see who could stay in the longest. The water was so cold.
They played on the banks of the creek, dug holes and created rock stacks.
They floated down the creek over and over again.
What a beautiful place!
