Cannon Beach Winter Adventures | Escaping the Snow
The Oregon Coast is always one of our favorite places to visit as a family. We head to the Coast several times a year. This was our first trip of 2017 to Cannon Beach. After the major January snowstorm and a week of freezing temperatures, we were so excited to see forecasted warmer temps at the beach. When Portland gets a record amount of snow, the whole city shuts down. The snow stayed day after day and we were ready to get away from it. After driving through a very snowy mountain pass, we finally came back down the mountains and the snow was gone. It was still a little chilly at the beach but it was sunny and dry.
The Cannon Beach area is usually our go to stop. There are several places in the area we like to visit, including Hug Point and Ecola State Park. We spent the day walking on the beach, throwing rocks, going to the candy store and watching a beautiful winter sunset. It was the perfect family day and the perfect escape from snowy Portland.
Our First Oregon Coast Stop: Ecola State Park
Most of Ecola State Park was closed due to storm damage. We were able to check out the view and it was breathtaking.

Our Next Stop: Cannon Beach
We walked on the beach. The kids threw rocks and found a huge hole someone had dug. That kept them occupied for quite some time.

My Favorite Place on the Oregon Coast: Hug Point
The tide was up pretty high so we were not able to get around the corner to the waterfall. Listening to the waves hit the rocks was incredible. I love this place.

Last Stop: Haystack Rock
After a yummy late lunch in Cannon Beach, we headed back to the beach. We took a long walk and the boys played football. It was so beautiful and the sunshine felt amazing. We decided to stay for sunset and I am so happy we did. This photo is a favorite for sure. We always do jumping photos and they always turn out different. I was so excited to have this photo shared on several Instagram pages, including Magic of Childhood and Moments in the Sun.
